Choosing a kit

Find a Funzo Kit that suits your learner’s age, interests and level of independence.

There is no single “right” science kit for every child.

A good starting point is to think about the learner - their age, what they are curious about and how comfortable they are following instructions on their own.

Start with the learner’s age

Check the recommended age on the kit.

Younger learners usually do better with activities that have a few clear steps and plenty to see, touch, mix or build. Older learners may enjoy experiments that involve more measuring, testing and recording.

The age guide is there to help, but it does not have to be a strict rule. A younger learner who loves science may enjoy a more advanced kit with help from an adult.

Check the recommended age and think about how much support your learner may need.

Follow their curiosity

Think about the questions your learner already asks.

Do they like building things? Mixing colours? Looking at insects? Making things move? Finding out why something floats, sinks, bubbles or changes colour?

Start there.

Science becomes much more fun when the experiment connects to something the learner already wants to understand.

Think about where you will use the kit

Funzo Kits can be used at home, in school or as part of a group activity.

At home, you may want an activity you can set up on a table and explore together.

For a classroom or science club, think about how many learners will take part, how much time you have and whether learners will work individually or in groups.

Many FunKe Science activities use familiar materials, so practical science does not need a complicated laboratory setup.

A table, a few simple materials and a curious mind can become a science lab.

Check what comes with the kit

Before starting, look through the kit and the activity guide.

Some activities may need an extra household item such as water, a cup, spoon or paper towel.

Keep reusable tools together after the experiment so they are ready for the next activity.

Check the kit and activity guide before starting your experiment.

Still not sure which kit to choose?

Choose based on four things - age, interest, confidence and where the kit will be used.
